Welcome to the Canadians Helping Kids in Vietnam website. Here you will find information about our charitable organization and what you can do to get involved with us. Feel free to look around and please do not hesitate to contact us if you feel the need to do so. We would love to hear from you.
Our charity, Canadians Helping Kids in Vietnam Incorporated in Manitoba in 1995, is planning our second medical mission to Vietnam from January 14 - February 2, 2011. A team of 18 including emergency, intensive care, surgery, pediatrics and ear nose and throat physicians, and nurses, along with a pharmacist, paramedic, translators and other volunteers, will spend two weeks at the Long Xuyen General Hospital. The Canadian team has been put together by our Medical Mission Director, Dr. Chau Pham, on behalf of the Board of CHKV and all Canadians, and the receiving team of medical staff at the hospital is being coordinated by Dr. Rang Nguyen.
Our goals for the mission are to share our medical knowledge and experience with the Vietnamese staff and in that regard will be bringing in over a 1000 pounds of medical equipment and supplies donated by the WRHA and Hope International Canada in Manitoba. Because our charity focuses on improving lives for children in Vietnam, we have built eight schools in the country and are drawing up an agreement for the ninth, have matched up over 225 Canadian families as monthly sponsors of some of the poorest families in Vietnam, and have conducted medical and dental missions to the country in 2009 and 2010.
One of our special goals for this mission is to have the team of eighteen Canadians distribute a new bicycle to at least 50 kids whose families cannot afford a bike to help the child get to and from school. We will be ordering the bicycles stamped with our CHKV logo, from a manufacturer in Vietnam, and believe we should be able to buy each child a new bike for $40. Therefore right now we are having a campaign to find donors willing to buy a bike to enable a little child to get to school.
"Biking on a Child's Future" costs only $40 and can change a life so immensely. Donors can mail cheques made out to CHKV, 802 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0B9. A tax receipt will be mailed to each donor early in the new year.
