Low incomes, dreadful living conditions and a lack of education and health care leave many families with very little hope for a better life. Many of the families are supported by a single parent or by aging grandparents and many of the children have disabilities.
CHKV now has over 350 Vietnamese families whose lives have been improved thanks to the support of Canadian sponsors. The money sent is used to pay for the costs of school supplies and uniforms (allowing many kids to attend for the first time), improved food, health care including long-needed surgeries and improved housing following monsoon storms.
CHKV family sponsorship involves:
- Making a tax deductible payment of $25 per month, payable in two $150 instalments on April 1st and October 1st.
- Receiving newsletters regarding the program at least twice a year.
- Receiving a receipt for tax purposes in February each year.
